Star Forts - Part 1: An Intro, Ancient Earth Works, Defensive Mounds, Examples of History, Power Up

How goes it on this fine late summer afternoon? Welcome back to the channel.

In recent weeks I’ve noticed an influx of discussion over star forts, and their possible purposes beyond simple defensive structures. Today I’ve decided to throw in my two cents at explaining the current theories that abound regarding these Star Forts, in particular, those founded in North America.

The Star, or Bastion fort really appears to imitate other Old World structures that could be found throughout the United States in the 1600s and 1700s. Many Native American cultures, including the Hopewell, Adena, and Lenape, amongst many others, built Mounds, Earthworks, and even Star Shaped Defensive structures of their own throughout the United States.

While these massive Native American building projects were well documented in the 1840’s, little of their efforts remain today, and finding information on the subject is becoming more and more difficult.

Could the original Native Structures be related to the North American Star fort? Could the Forts pre-date even Native cultures in the area? And what extracurricular purposes could these ancient forts and earthworks have served besides defense?
