The achievements of African American actors and actresses in cinema have been a monumental climb. The Academy Awards has only offered only a limited number of acting awards to African Americans, which has highlighted the glaring problem of underrepresentation in Hollywood cinema. Despite the gains made over the past decade, diversity among the Oscar nominees and in Hollywood at large is a lot to be desired. This video serves as scrutiny of the Academy Awards and the way in which Black people have been short-changed year-after-year by the Oscars, but it also serves as a celebration of African American actors and actresses who have been able to claim their coveted trophy on Hollywood’s biggest night.
