More than 30 vehicles have been defected and numerous fines issued following a joint vehicle compliance operation in Sydney’s eastern beaches overnight.

The operation, which was led by officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command ran from 6pm yesterday (Saturday 24 August 2019) to 2am today (Sunday 25 August 2019), targeted vehicles with illegal and/or unsafe modifications in the La Perouse area.

Local police were also assisted specialist police by Traffic and Highway Patrol Command, and expert officers from the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and Roads and Maritime Services (RMS).

During the operation, police conducted 234 random breath tests and nine roadside drug tests and issued 23 traffic infringement notices and one parking infringement notice.

The EPA conducted 21 compliance tests, and issued 18 defect notices and 17 penalty notices, which included a total of $4200 in fines.

The RMS inspected 21 vehicles and issued 14 minor defects, as well as one major grounded defect.

Eastern Beaches Police Area Command’s Superintendent Rohan Cramsie said this was one of a number of operations targeting hoon and anti-social behaviour in the area.

“In previous operations we have found vehicles with tyres down to the steel belts and other vehicles where seats have not been properly reinstalled properly,” Supt Cramsie said.

“This is something that places all os us at risk and reinforces why we do these operations.
