She joined the Indian Air Force in 1968 and went on to become the first woman Air Marshal of the Indian Air Force.
She is a decorated former flight surgeon of the Indian Air Force. She was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM) for her conduct in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. She creating history as the first IAF couple in world to receive a President's award in the same investiture parade.
She is the first lady aviation medicine specialist in South East Asia.
She is the first Indian woman to become a Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Society of India and conducted groundbreaking scientific research at the North Pole.

She has many more firsts to her kitty, breaking the glass ceiling in India at that time was an unthinkable task and she had to make many a sacrifices, the path was never easy but it's all about determination and never giving up!
