Reel Mowing Tall Grass, Will It Work?

Reel mowers are great at precision cutting and keeping grass healthy but there is an Achilles heel which is that they either can't cut some grass at a high enough level for the grass to be healthy or they can't cut tall grass down to a manageable height.

The Fiskars mower that I use here in this video has been with me for well over 5 years. I've sharpened the blades twice and I've cut St. Augustine grass the entire time until this year when I changed the backyard over to Empire Zoysia. I have no complaints about the quality of the machine and the cut provided by the Fiskars mower but.... can it cut tall grass?

Once again, the reel mowers aren't very adept at cutting overgrown grass and this still holds true for the Fiskars. While this mower may be better at handling taller types of grass, there is only so far this machine can go.

If you're not going to be able to keep your grass growth under control due to work schedule, frequent travel or other reasons, I'd recommend that you use a rotary mower with a sharp blade for your grass cutting needs but if your're able to stay on top of the growth with frequent mowing during the summer months I don't think you can go wrong with the Fiskars mower.
