The right way to choose your motorcycle.
The Essential Guide to Any Motorcycle Traveler - Online Course: https://rtw-adventures.com/online-cou...
What I would suggest or what would be my choice between this or that model? This is the number one question I received in the last few years. In this video, I will try to explain once again how to choose your motorcycle.
First and very important is to use your common sense. Unfortunately, common sense is not so common nowadays. The adventure obsession or the adventure flu spread very fast and the big motorcycle brands use it very well to sell us their expensive models. Even if you have an unlimited budget you still need to choose wisely otherwise you just wasting your money. What is the point to spent 25,000 $ for bike, more 5,000 for a proper adventure gear and then keep everything in the garage?
I will understand if you are a collector or let's say a bored millionaire, otherwise, it is absolute nonsense! I am not going to talk even for people who cannot afford to pay it and need to take it on credit. To buy all of these with the idea that you are going to have a better adventure experience? O come on! You are not 16 years old, or maybe you are? As I said already common sense is not that common nowadays!
As usual, I rumble a lot without saying anything, let's finally talk on the topic, how to choose your motorcycle? The first and very important is to buy a model that you can afford. This will give you the chance to spend more money traveling instead of paying the bills every month because, in the end, you buy the bike to ride it, right? Or maybe not, common sense is not so common...
The second is to buy a model that suits you. If you are 1.60cm, 70kg the huge 250kg BMW 1200 Adventure will be a monster to you. Don't forget that bikes sometimes need to be pushed or lifted from the ground. You have to be able to do it alone and I am not talking about an attempt on the car parking in front of your garage.
You have to consider that it usually happens when you are tired with full gear and on not so flat terrains. You can do it once, twice and then what? What about if you are stuck under the bike? All of this is common sense, right?
On the other hand, if you are with my size or even bigger, 250cc is not going to suit you well and it doesn't matter what the guys from Youtube say in their reviews because, in the end, you need to ride this model.
The third, very important point is the reliability of the model, especially if you plan to travel on a long trips, far away from your country. I talked a lot about this in my videos, but again the common sense is not so common...
The fourth, very important point is the type of trips you are plan to make. Road, off-road or mixed? Short or long, alone or with pillion?
When you have the answers and use common sense, you should be able to choose without any problems. For example, 650cc or less for 2 people, with a lot of luggage, traveling mostly on the European highways is not going to be the right choice, especially if they are in a group with many others with 1000cc bikes.
On the other hand, a 250kg adventure bike is not going to perform very well on the dirt tracks, unless you are a professional rider for many years. Common sense but common sense is not so common...
The fifth and last point to consider is the maintenance of the model. It goes together with number four, the type of trips you plan to make.
For example, if you ride a brand new bike, equipped with top technologies but for everything require a computer and authorized garage I will think twice before I decide to go to completely remote areas.
I am not saying that this is impossible, many did it already, what I am saying is that if you have any technical problem is more likely to spend a lot of time and money to fix it compare to some simple old models.
