This video is a quick winter update to my November visit to the Dane-to-Sauk County Trail bridge project. I stopped out again on January 17, 2025, with temperatures hovering around 13–14°F, light snow falling, and a steady breeze reminding me this was not a hang-around kind of day. ❄️🌬️
Since my last visit, visible progress continues on the Wisconsin River Recreational Bridge — the long-awaited link between the Great Sauk State Trail and the future Walking Iron Trail in Dane County. Winter slows things down, but the size and importance of this structure really show when the site is quiet and snow-covered.
This bridge is a key missing piece in a decades-old plan to connect trails across southern Wisconsin, eventually allowing uninterrupted travel between counties without mixing with highway traffic. Construction officially began in early 2025, with completion expected in 2026, followed by continued rail-to-trail work.
