Rent a holiday home in the "Venice" of St. Tropez - Port Grimaud, France

Many travelers today are renting houses, apartments, cabins, boats and all sorts of accommodations for their holidays. Since we sold our own little rental house high up on a lake in Haute Provence, France, we have now joined all these folks looking for a more real experience of living in an area, getting to know the local restaurants, village markets and generally just wandering around and living like the locals. What better way to get a feel for a different culture?

In our case, my wife and I have loved the area of southern France bordering the Mediterranean for many decades, in my case since 1954 when my family spent our summer vacation there in a little, Spartan cottage hidden in a vineyard, long gone now with the spread of the village. But on frequent subsequent visits, we stumbled upon a fairly new boating development, Port Grimaud, at the bottom of the bag of the Bay of St. Tropez that is much like Italy's Venice only distinctly French with canals and little houses based on the traditional fishermen's cottages all with their own boat docks. Each house is individual with most different variations on some 20+ standard architect's designs; some tiny other spacious. There is a central square with all the shops, minimarts, restaurants and a few rental agencies, mainly the one we used "Logi Service" where several languages are spoken including English.

You can rent small boats and larger ones in the area. But there is very little that cannot be accessed by foot. There is private parking for all the houses so you can drive the 5 minutes to a huge supermarket (Le Grand Casino) where you can buy everything from food, drink, table ware, pillows, blankets and most assuredly wine - in short about everything you could possibly need for your stay whether you are in Port Grimaud or anywhere around the bay and further inland as well. You can even rent scooters and bikes in the area. But we live having water right at the bottom of our garden, hearing the seagulls with our petit dejeuner. We like being able to make our own breakfast, lunch or dinner when we want to or wander around to one of many restaurants and get to know some people we see repeatedly on the way.

So this video shows the little house we rented from Logi Service in the Spring of 2023 that was an absolute delight. Each house is different but this one is a gem.
