Get a glimpse inside one of the most formidable German tanks of World War II - the King Tiger.

It’s time for a deeper dive into this vehicle; it’s history and development. Competing designs early into the production process led to a variety of different ideas being tried – and different turrets being produced!

The Tiger II certainly had an impressive presence out in the field, but crews were up against numerous mechanical difficulties. These tanks used up a lot of fuel, plus they were severely underpowered – with the same engine for a Tiger I being used to shift around a vehicle that was 14 tonnes heavier. Many more King Tiger’s were lost to breakdowns than to enemy fire.

Whilst this beast may have been well protected, and well-armed, it’s difficult to say whether the King Tiger was truly a battlefield success.
