Did you know a man survived three days inside a giant fish?

About 760 years before Jesus, God told the prophet Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and warn the people to change their ways. Jonah did not want to go. Instead, he ran away and boarded a ship going in the opposite direction.

God sent a powerful storm. The waves were so strong that the ship was about to break apart. The sailors were terrified. They cast lots and realized Jonah was the reason for the storm.

Jonah told them to throw him into the sea. As soon as they did, the storm stopped.

Then something shocking happened. God sent a huge fish to swallow Jonah whole. Inside the fish, Jonah should not have survived. There was no air, total darkness, and intense pressure.

But God kept Jonah alive for three days and three nights.

From inside the fish, Jonah prayed and admitted he was wrong. He asked God for mercy. God listened. He commanded the fish to spit Jonah out onto dry land. Jonah was alive and unharmed.

Many years later, Jesus spoke about Jonah’s story. He said Jonah’s three days inside the fish was a sign of His own death and resurrection.

One man’s rescue became a powerful message of hope and salvation.
