Aneesh Pradhan - Tabla solo (Nazmnuma)

Recently, I had the opportunity of seeing and hearing a recording on YouTube that really inspired me to compose something for tabla solo repertoire in the sixteen-matra Teentaal. The recording was of the celebrated poet Javed Akhtar’s recitation of the first misra from his grandfather Muztar Khairabadi’s ghazal (   • Javed Akhtar recites the longest sher...  ). The meter and pace were incredibly captivating. After completing the composition, I felt that it didn’t fit into the established compositional forms like gat, tukda, or gat-tukda. I felt it called for a new nomenclature and have decided to call it Nazmnuma, a name suggested by my wife Shubha Mudgal. I am happy that I could present my composition at a concert organised recently in Pune by Sanjeevani Hasabnis in memory of her guru and respected tabla player Pandit Bhai Gaitonde.
