Difference between Regression Testing and Re-testing

.Regression Testing and Re-testing are type of Tests to be executed on modified software builds,

.Regression testing can be done in parallel with re-testing. Re-testing is of high priority so it’s done before the regression testing.

.Regression testing test cases can be automated and re-testing the test cases cannot be automated.

What is Regression Testing?

Regression Testing is defined as a type of software testing to confirm that a recent program or code change has not adversely affected existing features.

Regression Testing is nothing but a full or partial selection of already executed test cases which are re-executed to ensure existing functionalities work fine.

What is Re-testing?

Retesting : To ensure that the defects which were found and posted in the earlier build were fixed or not in the current build.

Retesting is running the previously failed test cases again on the new software to verify whether the defects posted earlier are fixed or not.

Regression testing vs Re-testing

.Regression testing is done for passed test cases, Re-testing is done only for failed test cases

.Regression testing checks for unexpected side-effects, Re-testing makes sure that the original fault has been corrected

.The purpose of Regression Testing is that new code changes should not have any side effects to existing functionalities, Re-testing is done on the basis of the Defect fixes
