Ballerinas are known for working extremely hard, but did you know there was a time in history where it was not uncommon for them to die for their art? The tutus used to be made of flammable material and the stages were lit with gas lights. Even once it was made illegal not to use flame repellent material, many dancers flouted the law as it damaged the theatrical effects of the costumes.
