When I first started writing this script, I noticed a strong urge to avoid sharing from my own experience — something I’ve always struggled with, even before becoming a therapist. Therapists are often taught not to talk about themselves, but the truth is, much of what I understand doesn’t come only from research or the insights I’ve gained through my clients. It also comes from my own lived experience. The way I’m speaking to you now is the way I imagined I’d speak to my 20-year-old self — the version of me who really needed to hear this.
