The musicians from the Antonio Flinta Quartet play their own original compositions, which show equally well their remarkable instrumental technique, knowledge of jazz history and modern perception of talented performers.
Their intense interplay are the means to explore texture and colour, free improvisation and standard jazz song form, groovy rhythms and open spaces. Always bearing in mind that music is a universal language in which people must communicate.
The band’s leader, pianist and composer Antonio Flinta, was born in Chile. He attended the Taller de Musicos school in Madrid before earning a scholarship to attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied composition, arrangement, improvisation and jazz piano. Back in Rome, in 1993 he formed his own trio with Roberto Bucci, self trained bass player and programmer of the Artena 3000 Jazz Festival, and drummer Claudio Gioannini, an honours graduate of the Percussion Institute of Technology in Hollywood, USA, and founder of the Staff Music School in Rome, Viterbo.
The trio has recorded four CDs: The Meeting (2000), Tree and Figure (2003), La Edad De La Ira (2005), and Portraits and Songs (2007). The song Ninietta included in the album La Edad De La Ira was among the awarded finalists in the 2006 USA Songwriting Competition.
The Quartet featured in the new CD Tamed (2009), expands the expressive possibilities of an excellent trio with the contribution of longtime friend Piercarlo Salvia, multi-instrumentalist and composer for theater, film and television. He has taken part in domestic and international jazz festivals in France, Switzerland and Luxembourg.
