Capturing my first-ever serval in broad daylight was an unforgettable experience—40 minutes with this relaxed and elusive cat!

This season in the Lion Plains area of South Luangwa has been remarkable, with an unusually high density of servals. Some speculate that an increase in rodent species like elephant shrews is attracting them. Daytime sightings are now surprisingly common, with lucky guests sometimes spotting up to three servals on a single game drive!

As a wildlife filmmaker, I’ve always dreamed of capturing a serval in ideal conditions, and this moment was a dream come true. It allowed me to observe and film its natural behaviour up close—completely undisturbed, scanning the grass for movement with the grace of a true hunter.
