This lovely tune was composed by Django during Spring 1941. From April 11 to June 11, the Quintet was hired to play the afternoon teas in the garden of chez Ledoyen, on the Champs-Elysées. According to Pierre Fouad, transcribed by Delaunay in his book, Django was overjoyed to play there: « Oh brother, we are going to make money! What Django like in this place was the atmosphere. While we were playing, we could see through the large windows, the trees on the Champs-Elysées avenue. It was inspiring for Django. One afternoon, he composed Lentement Mademoiselle. Talking to the musicians, he said: – Let me start, play really softly and Hubert, when you get the melody, you jump in. »
