In 1992, Porsche produced a super-lightweight, rear-wheel-drive only version of the 964 dubbed Carrera RS. It was based on Porsche's 911 "Carrera Cup" which was reminiscent of the legendry 2.7 and 3.0 RS and RSR models. The RS was fitted with a revised version of the standard engine titled M64/03 internally which had an increased power output of 260 BHP (194 kW; 264 PS) and lightweight flywheel coupled to the G50/10 transmission with closer ratios, asymmetrical Limited Slip Differential and steel synchromesh.

A stripped-out interior devoid of power windows or seats, rear seats, air conditioning, cruise control, sound deadening and new racing-bucket front seats were part of the RS package. The front bonnet was made of aluminium, the chassis was seam welded and sound deadening was deleted. Finally the glass was thinner in the doors and rear window. The Carrera RS is approximately 345 pounds (155 kg) lighter than the standard model.

Our car, Chassis No: 491254 & German registration No: EN 06678, was originally supplied to Bilstein the suspension & shock absorber company. The motorcar was driven by none other than Walter Röhrl: Bilstein wished to develop further they world leading suspension & shock absorbers; they choose Walter Röhrl whom they believed would be the best overall driver to carry out these development assessments. Photographic evidence of these tests accompanies our comprehensive historical chassis file.

Despite being selective in his choice of top-level events, albeit during a time when this was a less unusual occurrence for top-line drivers in the championship, Water Röhrl still scored 14 WRC victories in his career. Röhrl was also successful in road racing events, and called "Genius on Wheels" by Niki Lauda. In the 1992 24 Hours Nürburgring race which saw fog and heavy rain in the night, he hardly slowed down, anticipating the corners by timing. The race was nevertheless interrupted for hours. In Italy, he was elected "Rally driver of the century". In France he was elected "Rally driver of the millennium" in November 2000. A jury out of 100 worldwide motorsports experts elected him "Best Rally driver ever" in Italy.

The Carrera RS subsequently came to England in 2008 & has covered just 7,000Km in the hands of one private owner since. On acquisition, Hexagon Classics embarked upon a sympathetic refurbishment programme that included a complete repaint in the original factory colour of G1G1 Guards Red with a total mechanical overhaul carried out by renowned marque specialists, BS Motorsport, that include dynamometer readings of engine BHP & Torque settings.

Accompanying the car is a unique historical chassis file which includes:
Original Factory Leather Pouch
Service & Hand Books
Porsche AG. Certificate of Authenticity
Dynamometer Torque & BHP documents
Historical Photographs -- Walter Rohl
Various Service Invoices

This spectacular 964 RS is now available for immediate inspection at our central London showrooms.
