Marcos 10:14 composed by Ily Matthew Maniano

Sharing the UP Manila Chorale’s performance of Marcos 10:14, a setting of the said bible verse, by Ily Matthew Maniano performed at the Tokyo International Choir Competition 東京国際合唱コンクール in Harumi 2019.

In Maniano's work, the bible verse: “Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for theirs is the Kingdom of God” is sung both in Visayan and Spanish language by a double chorus. A delicate balance between the Pentatonic and an altered double Phrygian tonality Is infused in the music to capture both Asian tunes and music of the Spanish gypsies. The composer included percussion instruments to achieve the festive feel of the annual Sinulog Festival in Cebu City.
