Описание к видео News at Ten clip (15/11/85)

Part of an ad break from the Tyne Tees region and then the start of News at Ten, all from Friday, 15th November, 1985. The top story is the resignation of Ian Gow over Margaret Thatcher's signing of the Anglo-Irish Agreement. (Outrageously, of course, Gow was assassinated by the IRA five years later.) Second is the Armero tragedy, a volcanic eruption in Colombia that caused devastating mudslides and led to the deaths of roughly 23000 - despite experts calling for an evacuation two months earlier, which the government ignored.

On a less depressing note, check out those 80s ads at the start. The Hamlet ones always give me a laugh, but what about Currys? Needless to say, the tech of the era always gets me, and they were still doing video recorders with remote controls attached to the unit via a wire at this point, it seems. Love it.

Many thanks to Ben for providing this recording.
