From the forest of the strong
came the warrior
Hidden by a prudent goddess’ hand
is the knowledge that strife
is emptiness striking against emptiness
Behind the masks were names
and the names carried masks
But for the fertile
stood these:
A red door
The blue labyrinth
and the golden thread
He found virtue so late

The wolfess was sick
poisoned by the desert palace
Two who became one stepped fourth
The dragon and the many-headed
Came to apparition as the demon
He found virtue so late

The warrior went down the halls of the castle
Around the shadows tightened
From the shadows there stepped a giant
The son of fire, the raging red-breast
did not let himself be cowed
He fought the giant to a draw

Behind the masks were names
and the names carried masks
Red was the drink they bid him
red was the drink he drank
The veil of Maya fell from his eyes
and he saw
He found virtue so late

From the forest of the elves came the son of the tyrant
In the castle of the wizard, he stood with a bloody rapier
He walked many miles with his friend
Until he understood the friend by his side
was clay
He found virtue so late

The warrior closed the red door
He traversed the blue labyrinth
by clambering across
Wanted to climb the golden thread
He found virtue so late
