The shoemakers of Kariokor reaping big

Thirteen years ago some youth from Mathare slums in Nairobi County decided to transform themselves into an income generating group through the Jirani Mwema Self Help Group. After trying different ideas, the group eventually settled on the making of shoes from goat hide. Their production line is at the Kariokor market. Our reporter Yusuf Farah spent an afternoon with the Shoe Makers of Kariokor and filed the following report.
