TIPU'S TIGER

Описание к видео TIPU'S TIGER

A year or two ago I wrote an article about Tipu Sultan and his father, Hyder Ali, and the destruction of a British East India Company detachment at their hands in 1780. To commemorate the victory at Polilur, Tipu, who liked to call himself the Tiger of Mysore, made himself the present of a life-sized, mechanical, wooden tiger savaging a supine sepoy, complete with a bellows that produced roars and screams of pain. I had forgotten that this rather interesting object was on display in the Victoria and Albert Museum until I unexpectedly came upon it.
