OH BOY.
this description is gonna be a long one.

i actually meant to record a cover of “teeth” by 5sos at first, and also have that cover set to an amv style video of minthara, orin and mizora. BUT THEN i came across ‪@FishinaBirdcage‬'s song “rule 34” on tiktok. i had already been a fan of some of his music prior hearing his newest release, so i was really intrigued by this foray into spicier themes.

and he certainly did not hold back from spicy themes.

as per usual, i ended up thinking, “what would this sound like from a femme/wlw perspective?” i ESPECIALLY wanted to make a wlw version given how the song contained lyrics like “you look so good there on your knees” and “such a good girl knows how to please.” and, you know. maybe i just really wanted to sing something where i called someone a good girl. 🤭😏

now HERE’S where a bunch of my ideas began snowballing. we’re all familiar with the term “rule 34” right? if not, it basically means that, “if something exists, then there’s p🌽rn of it.” ‪@FishinaBirdcage‬ usually titles his songs like they’re different “rules,” so it only made sense that once he reached 34 he’d make it the spicy one. the meaning behind the title got me thinking, “what if i got an nsfw voice actor to feature on this cover? that would be so fun-“

“wait.”
“i have built a following and a small reputation for myself on youtube.”
“i have the means of contacting said voice actors if i wanted.”
“…I COULD DO THIS IF I WANTED.”

so that’s exactly what i did.
(also thank you ‪@chloebreez‬ for listening to me gush and always encouraging my ideas lol)

enter bordeaux black. how i became familiar with her work is not the most important thing in the world (but if you are so inclined to know—yes! women like watching p🌽rn too! including me! and if your instinct is to view people who work in adult media through a victim lens, or to look down upon women who enjoy adult media, you should do some self reflecting!). i shot her a little email introducing myself and pitching the project: i’d do lead vocals, and she’d voice act some of the lyrics on top of my singing as well as do some background vocals. to my surprise and delight, she was SUPER down with my idea!

and so we got to work, i asked ‪@antihuntress‬ if she could edit another video for me (which she did AMAZINGLY by the way), and now we’re here!

this has been one of my most favorite experiences working on a cover so far. immediately i just wanna talk about how bordeaux is one of the sweetest, kindest people i’ve met during my time in this space. it was so lovely being able to work, talk and joke with her throughout this! (and if she’s open to it, i’d love to work with her again in future covers!). it was also just so fun talking with ‪@antihuntress‬ as she worked on the video. i remember coming across an edit of astarion she had made using the song “HEAVEN SAYS” and being so in awe at her skill and artistic eye. i’m really glad i shot my shot when i first asked if she took commissions! and lastly, it was really fun texting ryuuki and reading reactions to bordeaux’s spoken lines as he mixed the cover.

i feel so lucky that the people i work with continue to be some of the sweetest people i’ve met online. i keep using the word “fun” but like. yeah! it’s such a joy to share in the love of making things with others, especially when they’re artists i admire.
