Playing a gig with ONE mallet

Описание к видео Playing a gig with ONE mallet

We've all dropped or broken sticks on a gig before. But one time back in 2005, I broke THREE mallets during the course of a gig...it forced me into a position that I learned a lot from - so this video tells the story and demonstrates what I learned that night back in New York City.

I lived in New York City from 2000-2009, and along the way I played a lot of gigs with a lot of different musicians.

The gig was in Harlem with a Hammond B3 Organ player. The rest of the band was myself, a guitarist and drummer - so thankfully I didn't have to play chords... but I did have to play melodies and take solos.

The band was loud and I was using cheap mallets - turned out to be a bad combination on this particular night!

After I broke three of my four mallets, I still had to find a way to play effective solos with just the one left. I'll demonstrate how I did that here.

In the video - I played parts of 'God Bless The Child' (Billie Holliday) and a one-handed solo over 'Blues For Alice' (Charlie Parker).

I hope you enjoy this video! Please subscribe and send me your feedback as to what type of videos I should make.

New video every week!

-Tim
