Good morning! Happy August Monday! August is the time for vacationing and one of the most popular places for a holiday is a beach. In today’s video I will share with you some beach-themed idioms.
Let’s start with the idiom “Catch some rays”. It means to spend time in the sun, typically to sunbathe. For example: Let's go to the beach and catch some rays this summer weekend.
Some people spend a lot of time at the beach, often lazing around and enjoying the sun and surf. You can call that person a “beach bum”. And for a female, you call her “beach bunny” Cute! For example: Ever since he moved to the coast, he transformed into a beach bum.
Next idiom is “summer fling”. This idiom refers to a short-term romantic relationship or affair that occurs during the summer season. For example: They met at a beach party and had a short summer fling before returning to their respective lives.
A person can have a “Sunny disposition”, it has nothing to do with the weather. This idiom describes someone who is cheerful, optimistic, and positive. For example: Despite the problems, she maintained a sunny disposition.
And the last one is “Life is a beach”. This idiom is a playful variation of the expression "Life's a b***h," but I like it more, because it suggests a more positive outlook on life. For example: Despite facing setbacks, they maintained a positive attitude and lived by the motto "Life's a beach." One thing to remember though, it’s very important to pronounce the word “beach” correctly, with the long “e” sound, otherwise you might be pronouncing something else. So, life is beach, go catch some rays, or even become a beach bum, enjoy a summer fling and always keep a sunny disposition.
