Mercer’s ABSN track is adapted to students with non-traditional paths and those who are making career changes. Once students have completed the prerequisites, they are admitted into the 12-month ABSN track where they focus on core nursing coursework.

The ABSN track is ideal for all types of students looking to enter the nursing field.

“We have many people with many backgrounds, different ages, coming from everywhere in this program and I think that’s special,” Taylor says.

For Kate, this looks like balancing motherhood with pursuing nursing: “It works out very well with having kids and a life outside of school,” she says.

Many other students choose to enroll in the ABSN track to make a career change.

“This program is for people who already have a degree and we already did four years in college, so the ability just being able to take the courses that you need prior to being admitted into your core coursework from the program is just amazing in my opinion,” Camille says.

Odessa spent many years in a different career before entering the ABSN track later in life.

“You could definitely see I am a non-traditional student and that’s OK,” she says. “You already know how to navigate life, you’re just going to apply that here.”
