Polymicrobial infections remain a challenge in treating lung disease in persons with cystic fibrosis. A better understanding of the interactions of different pathogens and their impact on the immune response is required to optimize treatment options. This session covers interactions between the two most common pathogens in people with cystic fibrosis, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa, the impact on modulation of the immune system by resident airway flora, including anaerobes and treatment options for co-infections in pulmonary exacerbation.
