LEADIN:
Palestinian activists are attemtping to replace the Temporary International Presence in Hebron after the international observer force was suspended last month.
The activists have since been banned from the Old City.
STORYLINE:
Wearing blue vests, a group of Palestinians protests against Israel's suspension of an international observer force in the West Bank city of Hebron.
The Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH) was halted last month.
Armed with video cameras, the activists say they will replace them in filming and documenting "violations" committed by the Israeli military and settlers.
The group began its work earlier this week and has enlisted 18 volunteers so far.
It plans to operate permanently in the absence of international observers.
Some volunteers, whose vests label them as "human rights observers" hand out sweets and yoghurt to school children.
Their work is not without confrontation, however.
