Shaykh Abdul-Aziz ibn Baz (رحمه الله)

Shaykh Abdul-Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz, may Allah have mercy on him, was a towering figure in Islamic scholarship and one of the most influential scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jama’ah in the 20th century. Born in 1910 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Shaykh Ibn Baz rose to prominence as a scholar despite losing his eyesight at a young age. He became a world-renowned authority in Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), 'aqeedah (creed), and hadith sciences, and his guidance continues to shape the Muslim world today.

Shaykh Ibn Baz studied under many of the prominent scholars of his time and eventually became the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, a position he held until his death. He also served as the head of the Permanent Committee for Islamic Research and Ifta and as a member of the Council of Senior Scholars. His fatawa (religious rulings) were widely sought and respected for their adherence to the Qur'an, the Sunnah, and the understanding of the Salaf-us-Salih (the righteous predecessors).

One of Shaykh Ibn Baz’s most remarkable qualities was his commitment to making Islamic knowledge accessible to all. His teachings were known for their clarity, and he addressed both traditional Islamic issues and modern challenges. He was a staunch defender of Tawheed (the oneness of Allah) and a firm opponent of all forms of innovation (bid’ah) in religion.

His kindness, humility, and dedication to the ummah earned him a special place in the hearts of millions. He left behind a legacy of vast knowledge, including numerous books, lectures, and fatawa that continue to be studied by scholars and students of knowledge around the world.

Shaykh Ibn Baz passed away in 1999, but his influence remains immense, and his works continue to guide Muslims globally.

We ask Allah (سبحانه وتعالى) to have mercy on Shaykh Abdul-Aziz ibn Baz, forgive his shortcomings, and grant him the highest levels of Jannah. May Allah allow us to benefit from his knowledge and make us steadfast upon the path of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Ameen.
