Three have died as a result of violence in Bengal's Murshidabad district, which erupted in the wake of the Wakf Act amendments which were passed through parliament recently. While the state administration has claimed the situation is under control, the latest round of violence has exposed deep faultlines in an increasingly polarised state and the administration’s inability to anticipate or contain the unrest. Was the violence communal or was it actually the politics that led to it that is communal and to be blamed? Political analyst Aparna Bhattacharya answers some of the questions on the issue.
