Описание к видео Post Ceramic Coating Inspection - IT FAILED...sort of...but still!

The "fail" on the video thumbnail is a bit much...but there is a special appearance in the video somewhere lmao!

I'm not a fan boy...I don't care to not be be 100% honest with what is happening. 19 times out of 20 everything is good with maybe a high spot here or there. I want to show yall what happens when this doesn't pass.

So what happened? The customer brought me a Camaro with a fairly decent finish. He was in for a 1 step paint correction and ceramic coating. He pointed out one spot he found where there was some heavy swirling that he would like to have addressed. Easy peasy. During initial paint inspection I found another 5 or 6 spots just like it. Again...not a big deal. It's not a widespread problem as the spots are really no bigger than the polishing pad. With the hood being mostly matte black vinyl I had some extra labor time available to chase some bigger imperfections. This was literally the only issue he really brought up...the rest was left to me.

The start of the post ceramic coating inspection went fine. I had even done an inspection before laying the coating down and missed it. 100% on me. There are quite a few inspections that I do while working on someones car that never see the light of day. It's just me and the car. The customer trusts me and my skill level. The bright metallic silver finish on this car is pretty damn good at hiding defects. It's like TV static (lol). The sun check never crossed my mind because I don't always have access to the sun...this is Houston after all. While performing the paint correction I didn't feel this was necessary with the process and how hard the clear coat seemed to be. Everything was going great.

You will see in the video that I even look past it initially and something just catches the corner of my eye. So I have to stop what I'm doing and really dig in to that spot and just hope it wasn't what I thought it was. At first all was good. Then I held the light at just the right angle and BOOM! That was underneath the damn coating. NO LOL FOR YOU! Would the customer see that? Probably not. Me being who I am and this being the only thing the customer was concerned about means I had to take care of it. With the coating less than 24 hours old I was confident in just polishing that spot and recoating it instead of pulling the coating off the entire trunk lid. I made sure the customer knew what was happening and let him know that if it does fail prematurely I will absolutely redo the entire panel. After polishing it off and re-coating it everything seemed to be just fine.

I really have an issue sometimes with when do I stop detailing. At what point am I just detailing for myself and my own particulars. I know what customers are paying for so anything extra I do without trying to upsell the customer is just fight I have with myself. I want everyone to get to the level I keep my Mustang but its expensive.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

PS...I am a die-hard Mustang fan boy. That doesn't mean I can just leave a Camaro hanging with that kind of damage. :)
