To successfully resolve a conflict or dispute, you must first understand its roots or sources, and then appropriately match a dispute resolution method. John Budd, Alex Colvin, and Dionne Pohler call this “managing conflict at its sources.” To diagnose the roots of a conflict, they’ve created a three-part typology of structural, cognitive, and psychogenic sources of conflict. This webinar discusses this framework for diagnosing a conflict and considers the connections between causes and conflict resolution methods. This can be useful for anyone involved in a dispute because an enduring resolution to the conflict requires interventions tailored to the particulars of that dispute.
