Cab view of Odakyu Electric Railway, Enoshima Line, Sagami-Ono to Fujisawa.

The Enoshima Line is a branch line that branches off from Odakyu's main line at Sagami-Ono Station and runs south. Although it is a branch line, the track is of high standard, and there is also a direct express train from Shinjuku Station.

This video is a little long, over 30 minutes. Take a look at a line without weeds on the tracks (although there are a few).

Odakyu Electric Railway is a private railway that opened in 1927 from Shinjuku to Odawara. Two years later, the Enoshima Line, featured in this video, opened. One of the purposes for which the Enoshima Line was built was to transport tourists to Enoshima, which was a popular tourist destination, and it is said that there was a time when the line performed better than Odakyu's main line between Shinjuku and Odawara.

Odakyu Electric Railway was founded by Toshimitsu Tsurumatsu, who was determined to start a railway business, but there were already railways built in the prime locations around Tokyo, so Toshimitsu had no choice but to obtain a construction license for the route of the current Odakyu Odawara Line, where there was no railway yet. Because of this, Odakyu was struggling financially when the line opened, and employees' salaries did not increase for many years. It is said that the Enoshima Line saved Odakyu's business.

Currently, the Enoshima Line is densely populated with houses, as usual. However, there is farmland here and there, and around Shonandai Station, the area where three railway lines converge is popular, and apartment buildings line the area.

At Fujisawa Station, the line connects with the JR Tokaido Line. The JR tracks run under the blue truss bridge. The Odakyu line makes a switchback at Fujisawa and continues to Katase Enoshima Station, which is close to Enoshima, but the train the camera is on ends at Fujisawa Station. Photographed in August 2024 (I took a photo of the evening view of Enoshima on this day, so I will upload that later. The train does not appear, though.)
