Investment in mutual funds is one of the most effective ways to create wealth in the long term but there are things that you must know before you jump in blindly. There are a number of expenses attached to your fund investment such as advertising expense, distributor fee, commission, and all these sum up your expense ratio. This can never go higher than 2.5% per annum in case of equity mutual funds and 2.25% per annum in case of debt mutual funds.

These limits are set by the stock exchange watchdog, SEBI. There are mutual funds that have an expense ratio of 2% or higher which can cost you lakhs of rupees in the long term. Combine this loss with inflation, and tax, and you find yourself with just money, not necessarily wealth.
