“Care for Cows is a network of volunteers dedicated to awareness, education and action regarding cow protection (go raksha) as taught in the Vedic scriptures. We also offer guidance and support to like-minded charitable organizations, throughout the world, who wish to honor and implement the Vedic standards of cow protection. At present we maintain over 300 abandoned cows, bulls, retired oxen, and orphaned calves throughout the sacred precincts of Vrindavan, India. Please contact us for further information.”

It all started in 1999 when one Street cow showed up at our founder Kurma Rupa Prabhus door step hungry. He fed her and she came again with a friend. He fed them and they came with more friends and next thing Prabhuji knew there were 25 cows camped outside his door permanently. So he decided he would build them a shed on rented land. Soon the shed was too small as he kept finding injured cows on the streets and so Care For Cows was born. Kurma Rupa Prabhu understood that Krishna had chosen him to serve His street cows. Before he departed this planet for Gauloka in 2015, he was serving 700 cows in multiple Gaushalas!!!

Today Kurma Rupa Prabhuji's student Nandu Lal Joshi has dedicated his life to continuing Prabhujis Gau seva legacy. They had first met when Nandu Lal was only 9 years of age. His parents had sent him to Bhaktivedant Swami International Gurukula here in Vrindavan. Kurma Rupa Prabhu immediately took him under his wing. The Spiritual Master then trained him and even took him along on his world travels. Their relationship became deep and today it is that relationship that keeps the seva alive. It is only by the grace of Shri Guru that seva to Bhagavan is obtained.

Life Adoption Program:-
It costs US$360 to maintain a cow for one year. The average lifespan of a cow is twenty years, thus the cost to maintain a cow for its entire life is US$6,000.

Feed Cows for a Day :-
It costs one dollar a day to feed a cow. Decide how many cows you want to feed and enter that number. If you want to feed 20 cows, send $20; 50 cows - $50; or feed our whole herd $500.

Feed Cows a feast on that Special Day :-
Feed Cows a feast on your birthday, anniversary, when a child is born, etc. It costs $2 to feed a cow a feast. If you want to feed 20 cows, send $40; 50 cows - $100; or feed our whole herd $540. The herd's regular diet is hay, barley porridge, wheat bran, chick pea husks and fresh grass. For the feast we add jaggery and fruit (bananas/guavas/apples according to season).
