Chicken Xacuti Ingredients
To make green masala
• 1-inch ginger (roughly chopped)
• 20 garlic cloves
• 3-4 green chilies (add as per your spice preference)
• 1/2 cup tightly packed coriander leaves with stems

To marinate the chicken
• 700 grams Chicken (Curry cut)
• 1 tbsp lemon juice
• 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
• Salt to taste
• Green masala

To make Xacuti masala
• 1/2 tsp black peppercorns
• 1/2 tsp cumin
• 8 cloves
• 1 tbsp coriander seeds
• 1/2 star anise
• 1/2 tsp fennel
• 1 petal of mace
• 1-inch cinnamon
• 2 green cardamoms
• a small piece of nutmeg
• 3-4 dried red chilies
• 2 tsp oil
• 1 onion, sliced
• 1 cup grated coconut
• 1 tbsp poppy seeds (Khus-khus)

To make chicken curry
• 3 tsp oil
• 1 onion, chopped

How to make chicken xacuti

1. Make green masala - Grind the ingredients mentioned under green masala to a fine paste. Keep it aside.
2. Marinate the chicken with lemon juice, turmeric powder, salt and green masala for an hour. Cover and keep it in the refrigerator.
3. Roast the whole spices. Remove it to a plate. In a pan heat oil and sauté onion until light golden. Add coconut and poppy seeds and roast until golden. Remove it to a plate to cool down. Grind the whole spices, onion, coconut to a fine paste to make xacuti masala.
4. Heat 3 tsp of oil over medium heat. Add onion and saute until golden.
5. Add the marinated chicken. Cook it uncovered for 5 minutes. Cover and cook it until chicken is cooked. Stir it in between as required.
6. Add xacuti masala and water. Cver and cook until it comes to a boil. Taste and add salt as per taste.
7. Cover and cook on medium-low heat for 10-15 minutes. Chicken Xacuti is ready to serve. Serve with Pav or Poli or steamed rice.
