Grizzly bears are wild animals and it's best not to try and seek them out in the wild or on the roadside. But if seeing one is on your Rockies bucket list, there is a safe way to do it!

The Grizzly Bear Refuge in Golden, BC is home to a beautiful male grizzly named Boo. He was rescued as a young cub after his mom was sadly poached near a roadway and now lives in a 20-acre refuge on the natural mountain slopes of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort - the largest enclosed and protected grizzly habitat in the world.

Boo is a very special bear. Thanks to him, researchers can observe and gain insights into grizzly behaviour and he now plays an important role in educating visitors about conservation and coexistence!

We joined one of the daily refuge tours, learned so much about Boo's story and (the best part!) got to watch him the entire time. Highly recommend adding this to your Rockies itinerary if you're hoping for a meaningful bear encounter without risking yours or the bear's safety.
