White discharge can be from the vagina or it can be from the neck of the womb i.e. the cervix. Discharges are a way of the body to clean itself. White discharges can be normal and can start in days leading up to the days of the menstrual cycle. This is due to the increase in the activity of the hormones of the womb.

White discharge is normal. But if the white discharge is too much and to the extent that it stains your clothes then it is considered abnormal. If the discharge has a foul smell or if it is blood-tinged or it has a slight discoloration then it is concerning and should be looked at by the doctor. These are the indicators that suggest that the discharge can be due to an infection, which can be easily treated by medicines or can also be due to cervical cancer. A pap smear is recommended by doctors. It is used in the cleaning of the mouth of the cervix.

Experts and doctors do not usually recommend any home remedies as there are no such fixed remedies for white discharge. Regular and simple cleaning of the vagina with soap and water is advised to keep the vagina as clean as possible.
