The medieval Hohennagold castle ruins are prominent and clearly visible from afar above the town of Nagold. It is one of the largest and most beautiful castle ruins in the country.
The ruins are a popular destination in the region.

As a rule, the DIGEL Pavilion is also hosted by Nagold associations on weekends and public holidays in summer. With cold drinks, ice cream and small snacks, hikers can relax and enjoy the peace and quiet on Nagold's local mountain.
Events also take place several times a year at the Hohennagold castle ruins.

The former castle was built on Celtic traces at the beginning of the 11th century as the seat of the Nagold Gaugrafen. Under the Counts of Hohenberg, the castle was expanded from the middle of the 12th century. The core of the triangular complex (restored 13th to 15th centuries) with the 2.5 meter thick shield wall, the flanking tower and the keep is still impressive. At the end of the Thirty Years' War (1645), the Hohennagold was destroyed by Bavarian troops and later removed further. The still stately ruins, from which you have a wonderful view of the city and its surroundings, have been thoroughly restored in recent decades.

The castle ruins are freely accessible at all times, free of charge. You can climb the Schlossberg via various hiking trails through the nature reserve. Since the parking lot on the Schlossberg offers only very limited parking, visitors are asked to use the parking lots in the city and to reach the castle ruins via these hiking and walking trails. You will be rewarded with a wonderful view of the Heckengäu, the Black Forest and, in good weather, the Swabian Alb.
