There's a new weight loss injection on the way. Eli Lilly's, Mounjaro is a weekly injectable currently FDA approved for the treatment of type two diabetes but it's also demonstrating to be extremely helpful at helping people to lose weight.

It belongs to the same class of drugs as Ozempic and Wegovy but it works a little differently. Instead of working on only one gut hormone like the others, Mounjaro works on two – GLP1 and GIP. As a result, it's anticipated to result in greater weight loss.

It's been deemed safe by FDA standards but is contraindicated in those with any personal or family history of thyroid, parathyroid or adrenal gland tumors or cancer; pregnancy, and if you're taking oral contraceptives.

Yes, you can get a prescription for this today for off label use from your provider however insurance won't yet pay for it until it is FDA approved for the indication of weight loss. Until then be prepared to spend starting at around $1200 for a one month supply. Speak to your healthcare provider today to find out if this medication is appropriate for you.
