Repeated Zirconium failures and distortions and their impact on nuclear plants are described.
Nuclear industry practices involving testing of unproven designs in nuclear reactors are compared to flight testing done in the aviation industry.
Fundamental processes that produce Zr component growth, distortions, and bows are described.
Questions about computer code used to design components, guide reactor operations, and help accident responders make the right decisions during a nuclear disaster are presented.
Under current US law, the NRC is responsible for nuclear safety.
Legal actions brought to improve nuclear safety sometimes fail because courts sometimes inappropriately regard the NRC as a credible authority on technical issues.
