Global connections across the Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean -- reconnecting ancient trading relationships along the maritime New Silk Road and strengthening energy ties with East Africa and South Asia. Although an exporter of refined petroleum product, India still depends Heavily on Imports of Crude oil. In 2010, India was the world's fifth largest net importer of Crude oil, with a majority of India's crude oil imports coming from the Middle East, with Saudi Arabia and Iran supplying the largest shares. This is all happening as mega-pipeline projects such as the Russia-China crude line are set to capture new, long-distance energy trade flows and possibly drive shipping companies' into stormy waters.
