💬 I have played this piece now for over a year, it is no joke lol 🙏🐴

📚Liszt’s Mazeppa is the fourth of his Twelve Transcendental Études, published in 1852, and is ranked among the most difficult and dramatic of the set. Inspired by Victor Hugo’s poem “Mazeppa” — which tells of the Ukrainian nobleman Ivan Mazepa tied to a wild horse and dragged across the landscape before rising to power — the music vividly evokes relentless galloping rhythms, fierce energy, and heroic struggle (the cadenza scales at the beginning I believe imitate the horse rearing up before taking off). Liszt portrays this story through thunderous octaves, rapid leaps, cascading arpeggios, and a triumphant coda in major representing Mazeppa’s ultimate survival and rise. Technically and musically, it demands enormous stamina, precision, and virtuosity, making it a showpiece of Romantic piano literature!
