In this stream I break down one of the most heated debates in Australia right now — housing, immigration, and the push from some corners for mass deportations or hardline ethno-nationalist policies. There’s a lot of emotion and a lot of misinformation, so I wanted to unpack what actually stacks up and what doesn’t.

We look at the difference between humanitarian, student, skilled and visa-worker migration, and why treating “immigrants” as one big group simply doesn’t work in real-world policy. I also challenge the idea that politicians are secretly engineering immigration just to pump their real-estate portfolios — instead explaining how systemic design, tax settings and planning failures drive the outcomes we see.

I dive deep into Australia’s collapsing public housing stock, skyrocketing population pressure, and why mass immigration at today’s scale creates real strain — but also why the “simple solutions” pushed online (5-year bans, mass deportation, cultural litmus tests) don’t survive any legal or practical scrutiny.

Most importantly, we talk solutions: targeted immigration reform, housing utilisation, downsizing incentives, negative-gearing reform, planning fixes and a civic, democratic path that can actually win majority support — instead of purity tests that go nowhere.
