This episode of the series “Louisiana’s Experience: World War II” from September 6, 2007, features stories related to Louisiana’s World War II veterans and the state’s contributions to the war effort. These stories include: the Louisiana Maneuvers of 1940-1941; General Claire Chennault and the Flying Tigers; the eyewitness accounts of three Louisiana survivors of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, John Zanka, Ed Jones, and Willie Gros; the creation of the Higgins Boats by Higgins Industries in New Orleans; a profile of fighter pilot Quentin Aanenson and his training camp at Harding Field in Baton Rouge; a profile of Annelle Henderson Bulechek, a member of the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP); the discovery of the sunken German submarine U-166 in the Gulf of Mexico; and a 2001 reunion of the 760th Tank Battalion, including interviews with veterans Robert Richard, George Carron, Ivy Labatut, Ray Hutchins, Harry Schroder, and Carl Tetter.
