प्राचीन हिंदू ग्रंथों के अनुसार जब भगवान श्री कृष्ण जी का जन्म मथुरा में कंस की जेल में हुआ था तब श्री कृष्ण जी के पिता वसुदेव जी श्री कृष्ण जी को गोकुल में ले गये थे । मान्यता है वासुदेव जी इसी घाट से यमुना में होकर गोकुल गये थे।
यह स्थान मथुरा के प्रमुख धार्मिक स्थानों में से एक है इसलिए ब्रज यात्रा करने वाले कृष्ण भक्त इस स्थान के दर्शन करने आते है।

It is believed that Vasudev ji went to Gokul via Yamuna from this ghat. This place is one of the major religious places of Mathura, hence Krishna devotees traveling to Braj come to visit this place.
