Healthy Oregon Project - Current Research and Future Opportunities

Описание к видео Healthy Oregon Project - Current Research and Future Opportunities

The Healthy Oregon Project seeks to learn about the health of people in and around Oregon. The overall goal is to understand the causes of cancer and other diseases in order to save lives.
Speaker begins at 03:10

HOP combines surveys on health, wellness, and behavior with the voluntary collection of biological specimens (e.g., saliva). Data are saved to a secure and privacy-protected repository of information that can be used to answer many different questions about health.

Dr. Shannon will provide an update on the project’s progress and opportunities for investigators at Oregon State University to access the HOP to support of their own research.

Presenter
Jackie Shannon, PhD, is a professor in the OHSU/PSU School of Public Health.
https://www.ohsu.edu/people/jackilen-...

She earned a BS in Nutrition Science from Pennsylvania State University, an MPH in Public Health from University of Minnesota, and a PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology from University of North Carolina with post doc work in Cancer Epidemiology.

Her work begins with consideration of the distribution and determinants of disease at the population level. Dr. Shannon’s diverse training has allowed her to explore many levels of analysis, including the individual-level (dietary intake) and the micro-level (molecular markers, genetic polymorphisms), but always with an intent on population-level application.
