John Carroll beats Calvert Hall 8-7, in MIAA "A" lacrosse league action.

The John Carroll Patriots boys lacrosse team defeated Calvert Hall, 8-7, on Tuesday.

CHC led 2-0 early and 3-2 at the half, but couldn't put away John Carroll. The Patriot defense frustrated the Cardinals at every turn and with the game tied, 7-7, entering the final minute, the JC defense forced a turnover to give the Patriots the ball and, with just five seconds to play, senior Cameron Carrigan scored the game-winner.

In the final minute of the game, John Carroll's defense denied the cardinals, and JC midfielder Dougie Kolb ran over two CH defensemen at the midfield line to advance the ball into the offensive half and secured an offsides penalty against the Cardinals. The Patriots came out of a timeout with 29 seconds to play and ran their offense. As the clock moved inside of 10 seconds, senior Max Snellenburg dished the ball inside to senior Cam Carrigan, who made one dodge before dumping the ball in the top right corner of the cage.

Carrigan finished with two goals and Travis Smith had three. In addition, Snellenburg, Athan Barmer, and Frank Smithmyer had one each. Another huge key was the play of goalkeeper Alex Stewart, who stuffed the Cardinals numerous times during the game, including 3 saves in the final 4 minutes. He finished with 20 saves. Defenseman Josh Shrader also limited the production Calvert Hall's top offensive player, Truitt Sunderland.
