Sauron Suite | The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (Original Soundtrack) by Bear McCreary

Though not seen throughout the series until the finale (not counting the prologue), Sauron's presence and grasp had an iron hold on the atmosphere and world of the show, his very existence being a great threat to Middle-earth. His theme from the original trilogy was iconic and perfect for the character, yet McCreary found a way to make a theme as menacing, evil, and powerful as Shore's. His motif is almost always sung by a deep, guttural male chorus chanting in Black Speech, a melody that reeks of malice and evil. A three beat pattern accompanies his presence at almost all times, but even when his main motif isn't played, a key component to his theme takes center stage; a rapid, jittery string ostinato reminiscent of a beehive swirling in waves, festering and growing across the show. It reeks of madness and plotting, a sign that he is ever near and ever closer to enacting his wrath. His theme also merges with others across the show; with the Stranger's when we're led to believe he's Sauron, and the theme of the Southlands when Halbrand reveals his true nature. Altogether, McCreary's Sauron theme may be his best villain theme in his entire career; malicious, powerful, ancient, and domineering, it evokes the true terror and might of the titular Lord of the Rings, and is worthy enough to befit the next Dark Lord of Middle-earth.
